What are TCN Hinge Events?

Wouldn't it be fantastic if all our churches were enthusiastically and effectively reaching unchurched and unbelieving people with the Gospel?  The hinge on which the door to effective mission swings is the empowerment of our people of passion to become missional leaders.  Since 2005, Transforming Churches Network has consulted with nearly 300 LCMS churches, impacting the quality and scope of their outreach.

Hinge Events are gatherings of passionate people who are looking to become deliberate in their actions for reaching people with the love of Jesus Christ.  Learn how changes in our culture over the past 50 years require some major missional shifts in how the church must engage society with the Gospel of Hope. See how to turn the church's declining membership and influence in its community into a new revitalized life cycle.  Find encouragement to shift the focus of a local church off of its own organization and on to the effective living out of the Great Commission.

What’s the Big Deal about Hinges?

Hinges are important because:

   1)  Jesus is the only Door to salvation (John 10:9), i.e., the
        only way into The Church;

   2)  Sometimes churches struggle to get their people out of
        the pews and into the community;

   3)  There are many doors out of the church and into the
        community;

   4)  The best way to “make disciples” is by going through
        those doors; and

   5)  Hinges are necessary to get the doors open!

Report from Olathe Hinge Event

"Starting a New Missional Life Cycle in Your Church"

The TCN Hinge Event at Redeemer, Olathe was attended by 102 people representing 19 congregations!  These pastors and congregation members came together to learn how to revitalize their congregations by focusing on Jesus' mission to "seek and save the lost."  Where do we find the lost?  The vast majority of the people who don't know Jesus are in the communities surrounding our churches.  Jesus did not sit in the temple or the synagogues and wait for people to come to him.  He walked among the people.  Shouldn't we do the same?

Upcoming Hinge Events

Each of the four events below is on a Saturday, from
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The cost is $15 per person OR $100 per congregation for 10 or more people.  The cost includes lunch and materials.  We encourage congregations to bring at least five people – the pastor and four lay leaders.

  • Saturday, October 27, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    Christ the King, Salina - 111 W Magnolia Rd.
    "Starting a New Missional Life Cycle in Your Church"
    Churches are like people; they're born, they grow up, and eventually they die.  (The average lifespan for a church in North America is 80 years!)  The difference is...people only get one life to live.  Churches can have multiple life cycles!  Learn how your church can become an exciting, new, outward-focused, community-impacting "mission outpost" by applying the Biblical principles of a new Life Cycle.  It IS possible for your best days as a church to still be ahead!

    "Empowering God's People for Mission & Ministry" -  Empowering people is the HINGE that opens the door for maximum missional impact in the community.  Without this powerful hinge in place, the other hinges will be weak or ineffective.  The four key ingredients of empowerment are 1) Biblical teaching, 2) Real Life Experience, 3) Affirmation of Passion, and 4) Equipping and Releasing people for service.  This event provides the framework for this pivotal hinge, as well as practical examples of how to keep it oiled up and in good, working order!
